Women And Self Defense!!!

With all the craziness of the Corona Virus we have forgotten about all the other problems we have in the world.  Wars continue, Natural disasters destroying towns and cities, Drugs invading our countries and let’s not forget women being abused and killed.

It is estimated that 35% of women in the world have been affected by some type of crime in their life time. In some countries its even heard of 70% of women have experienced some type of crime such as sexual assault by their partner, sexual assault by a stranger, robbed, physical or verbal abuse at work and much more.

A study in certain countries shows that men that saw violence towards their mother when they were young are most likely to abuse women as they get older. These men seem to see women as inferior to them or any other male.

This Violence has caused women to look for means of protection. Some have taken up classes on how to use a gun, others carry some type of pepper spray and even stun guns are part of women’s essentials in their purse. Below are some of the most comment tools women use for self-defense:

6 Defense Weapons for Women

For some time now women have taken up Martial Arts as a way of defending themselves. The Martial Arts of Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, Shim Myung Do, and others give the women a sense of freedom. With the practice of Shim Myung Do they can develop confidence in physical resistance and focus on breathing patterns to help them deal better when in a situation. Confidence is developed by consistently practicing the technique over and over again making it a natural movement when approached by an attacker.

The only goal in self-defense is not to beat up the attacker with martial arts techniques. The goal of self-defense is to be able to get free without injury to yourself. The best way to avoid being a victim is to prevent an attack from occurring in the first place. Here are 6 Rules of Prevention:

The 8 Golden Rules of Self Defense

There is no sure way for women or anyone to defend themselves, but taking some kind of action is better than nothing.  I would say that Martial Arts like Shim Myung Do is a good way to learn how to defend yourself as well as getting in shape. With the virus situation and everyone stuck at home now is a good time to enroll in online karate classes.  Online classes give you the benefits of:

No battling with traffic

No pier pressure

Train in the comfort of your home

No weather problems

So don’t be the next victim instead be the next success story of self defense!!!

Learn While You Wait!!!!

Ok, you’re going bananas while we are locked indoors now for a few weeks. I know I also am going crazy, but I found three simple solutions to keeping sane while am at home working.

  1. Communicate with your family. Talk about the old days, remember the good times and hard times as well. Older parents and grandparents love to talk about their times and how they handled difficult times.
  2. Excercise, this by far is the best way to keep control of your mind. First of all, it’s great for your body, second, it stimulates your brain to be positive and to feel good about yourself. As you know I am a martial artist so I do my Shim Myung Do workout daily (kicks, punches, forms).
  3. Learn, now that we have more time on our hands we should take advantage of it by learning something new. Take an hour a day and study something that you enjoy. Maybe you want to start a new business or career after this is all over. You will find that this hour you dedicate to learning will be more rewarding then you could imagine.

In conclusion, find the time to think and be positive. Don’t spend your time on the news channel listing to all the negative things that are going on right now. We have the power of choice use it wisely, choose to find a positive solution to all this madness make the best out of staying home. Stay Safe and Stay Healthy!!!!

There are a few things that we can do to make sure we stay healthy and that is: 1) stay away from crowds or other people. Don’t go out unless your really need to go out. 2) Wear gloves and mouth mask to protect yourself. https://amzn.to/2xSfYqv 3) Wash your hands really good with soap and water. 4) Take hot showers. 4) If you feel sick make sure to stay away from others and get checked for the virus. 5) Exercise is something that is highly recommended cause it builds your immune system.

With everything that is going on right now it’s time to make sure you find time to workout at least 3 times per week if not every day. For our students we are doing online classes 3 times a week, we are also doing private classes online via whatsApp or zoom. If your interested text me at (305) 878-3136 for more info. The important thing is to stay active and away from others. Distance is the Key right now. Stay Safe!!!!!!

Attention Kendall / Hammocks Mom’s

Bullying and being bullied has become a health problem for children of all ages because of their association with adjustment problems. It is therefore important to comprehend how bullying and being bullied affect the well-being of a youth. Over the years in dealing with children of all ages I have found that it is important to understand both sides of bullying, the person that is bulling and the victim of bullying.

The person that is picking on another child or teen is one that feels superior to others and in most cases wants to attract attention and win over his or her classmates. They at times demonstrate signs of confidence and leadership but in reality they are hiding some type of fear or trauma they have from the past or living in that current moment.

The child being bullied is most of the time a child that is insecure of themselves. He or she will walk the halls with their head down, shoulders dropped, alone, gets out of the way to make sure they don’t bump into anyone and will also not say a word to anyone. The biggest problem I have seen in the 40 years of dealing with children is that they are afraid to stick up for themselves and will not tell anyone what happened.

My child will be Confident !!! https://sparkpages.io/?i=VX

Here are some stats from 2015 – 2017

Only 22% of bullied teens reported anything, 13.6% where called names, 13.2% had rumors spread about them, 6% had been pushed, 4.5% where excluded from other children or groups, 3.9% had been threaten, 2.2% where forced to do things they didn’t want to and 1.6% had some type of property damaged or destroyed.

In conclusion I have found that putting children in some activity that they can excel in will help them deal with their shyness or insecurity issues. I would not recommend team sports because the other children and sometimes the coaches can be very competitive and will treat the children that are not to athletic tough and not in a nice way.

Martial Arts is one great way to build self confidence in a child, teen or adult. One of the ways they do that is thru the belt changes; every time they perform in front of their parents, friends and instructors they feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in themselves. They learn quickly that it’s not about fighting but about standing up for their rights and believes.

If you have a child that is going through a tough time in school because of bulling then have them try our 3 class trial program. I guarantee you will see a change in them real quick.
